E-learning is defined as education offered through electronic delivery methods like CD-ROMs, video conferencing, websites and email. It is often used in distance learning programs, where there is online interaction between the students and their teacher or their peers.

The infrastructure platform through which we deliver the e-learning content is called the Learning Management System (LMS). Various software tools perform functions related to online and offline training administration and performance management.

The LMS helps to follow student progress in any course and indicates completion. It tracks individual student performance, records quiz and test scores within the online learning program etc. The LMS then transfers this information to other record management software, so that there are permanent educational records.
